Franklin Elementary School

Special Services

Counseling services are available to all students. These services include assistance with friendship, transitions and help with personal concerns. Students who wish to see the counselor may make an appointment.

F/MAF has a health office that is staffed by a school nurse. Students who become ill or are injured during the school day are to report to the health office. Health records are kept in this office and parents/guardians are requested to update this information relative to medical conditions and long-term prescriptions.

If medication is to be taken during the school day, parent’s and the physician’s written permission is to be provided, along with the medication in the prescription container, to the health office.

The school social worker provides assistance to students who have personal or family situations that may interfere with their ability to attend, achieve, or adjust to school. The social worker meets with students individually or in support groups, and may make referrals to community agencies as needed.

The student assistance program has been developed to meet the needs of students. Support groups led by staff members have included: new students, families-in-change, concerned persons, and self-esteem groups. Students can join these groups at their own request, parent/guardian request, or by referral from the school staff.

The Rochester Public Schools offer support services for students. Contact a school administrator for further information if your child needs assistance with the following: clinical speech services; psychological services; social work services; title one; hospital/homebound services;
special learning and behavior programs; services for children with vision and hearing impairments; learning disabilities; orthopedic or other handicapping conditions; or special education classes.
