Franklin Elementary School

Third Grade

 Welcome to Third Grade!
We are a Stem/Humanities Team

What is Stem/Humanities?  We call it Stemanities!

A STEManities student will become a life-long learner through an integrated, collaborative, inquiry based instructional approach for the purpose of finding and solving problems as an empowered global citizen.

STEM stands for Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics

Humanities mixes language arts, social studies, and service learning

With this model of teaching your student will have two different teachers who work together as a team, one teaching STEM and one teaching HUMANITIES. They  integrate their lessons share students to provide their unique teaching specialties with your child.  Teachers work together to plan units, integrate learning, and assess student growth. Your child will have two blocks to their school day, a STEM block and a Humanities block with their switch done during their lunch and recess time.
(Example, while learning about the solar system in science, your child will be using mathematical equations to compare the size of planets, while learning to write a research paper on information learned in non fiction texts about the solar system.)

We are very excited to be involved in your education and are looking forward to a wonderful year!

Your Third Grade Team of Teachers,

Sarah Floren (stem) & Melanie Lindell (humanities)
Amanda Guenthner (stem) & Laurie Hurst (humanities)
