My name is Cecilia Elliott (my students call me “Ms. Ceci”). I am your child’s EL (ESL/ ESOL/English Language) teacher at Franklin Elementary School.
Allow me to introduce myself: I received my Bachelor’s Degree and Teaching License in ESOL from the Catholic University of Ecuador and then from the state of Minnesota. I obtained my Master’s Degree in Linguistics from Trent University in Canada. I taught at the American International School in Ecuador for 15 years and at Gage Elementary (Rochester) for 11 years. For the last three years I was a teacher at the Riverside Newcomer Center (NCC) and this year I moved to Franklin Elementary.
The primary goal of the EL program is for students to improve their level of proficiency in the English Language. We focus mostly on Reading and Writing, although we will also support the development of the students’ social and academic vocabulary, oral comprehension and verbal expression.
Your children’s ultimate goal is to reach a level of proficiency such that they will no longer require EL support, as shown by our tests and observations.
At that point, they will not be considered EL students anymore.
I am looking forward to working with your children this year. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me through the Franklin office (507-328-3300).
